8th Annual 'Walk a Mile in My Shoes' Walkathon
In the state of Michigan, it has been estimated that there are over
100,000 homeless people on a given night. Of this statistic, 1 out of every 3
homeless persons is a child, at the average age of 7 years old (MI State HMIS 2010).
Grace Centers of Hope, one of the oldest
and largest homeless shelters in Southeast Michigan, organizes an annual
Walkathon to raise funds and awareness to meet the growing needs of the homeless
children in our community.
What: 8th Annual ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ Walkathon
When: Saturday, June 1st, 2013
Where: The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak Time: 7:45am- Registration 8:45am- Walk Begins 9:30am- Children's Activities & Award Ceremony
Why: This years goal is to raise
$100,000 to fund the following services for our Children’s Program:
- Food clothing and shelter
- Hands of Hope Child-Care Center
- Free Medical and Dental Care
- Summer & Fall Youth Camps
- Children’s Learning Center
- School Supplies, enrollment and
tutoring
- School sporting programs and
activities
